Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1997 Norholm Builders has been building some of the finest homes on the central coast.
What is your primary product or service?
We specialize in Custom Homes. We also do fabulous Kitchen and Bath remodels, as well as outdoor living, Patios, Decks, Gazebos, Ponds, fountains, garden walls, and landscapes. There's nothing we cannot do.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I started in high school studying architecture for 3 years, then completed a construction trade school with honors my senior year. I worked as a framer, finish carpenter and roofer for 2 years, then I went to college and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Business Administration. While in college I was the school painter, so the first license I pursued was my C-33 painting license. I painted for about 2 year then worked for a local construction company for 2 more years as a construction manager while completing my General Contractors class B license. Once completed I went out on my own, building custom homes and enjoying a wonderful culmination of all my training and education.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Customer satisfaction leads the way, but all of my schooling and experience puts me in a very unique class of general contractors. I have an open-book, honest approach to my working contracts and that insures trust with my clients. I work hard at giving my clients the best quality and service money can buy.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I work from my home-office at one location. This keeps my overhead down so I can afford to keep my prices lower for my clients. I don't want to be so big of a company that it compromises the quality and personal attention each client deserves.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I like to show case my work so if you are interested I would be glad to provide a tour of some of the homes I have built.
What type of payments do you accept?
I have worked with every bank construction loan program available and have worked for cash or check. It depends on my client's. I am pretty flexible and pre-approved at several local banks in the area.
Which areas do you service?
I serve the central coast from San Luis Obispo to Santa Maria, California.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Though I am a corporation, I am the owner and run all daily operations. I have a bookkeeper that helps keep me in the field and working directly on my projects.
What are your hours of operation?
I am open for answering question by phone from 7 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. I will meet with my clients occasionally on Saturdays if needed.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That my clients really enjoyed working with me and that I gave them everything they asked for.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
1 Corinthians 13
New International Version (NIV)
13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
